Dr. Beau Altman
Dr. Beau Altman holds Masters and Doctorate (Ph.D) degrees in psychology and has conducted his postdoctoral study in clinical nutrition. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychological Specialties (DABPS, forensics). He is a licensed psychologist (ret'd) and behavior counselor, has a life-time teaching credential, college level, and is Certified in Homeland Security Level IV (CHSIV) with a specialty in multi-environment emergency evacuation.
Since entering the field of aviation safety in 1967, Beau has conducted human factor research leading to the design of aircraft emergency evacuation systems including egress lighting and exit signage, of which many have been placed into Federal Aviation Regulation and have been applied to the maritime industry as well as land-based facilities such as hotels and hospitals. He originated the human factors-based format for passenger safety information cards now standard for business and commercial aircraft and co-produced the first videotaped passenger safety briefing for a corporate aircraft.
With his founding of H. Beau Altman Corporation (aka HBAcorp) in 1981, Beau created a systematic, human factor approach to the air crewmember emergency training program called FACTS®; and, in 1994 he led his design team to build the first mobile, motion-based cabin emergency procedures trainer. FACTS® has truly set the industry standard for business aircraft operations.
In 1998, Beau sold the FACTS® training program and transferred his aviation human factors expertise into the world of maritime safety training. Then, spurred by the tragedy of 9/11, he took steps to become certified in Homeland Security to be more responsive in crisis management and human behavior training.
After Beau and Tony Adamski initiated the EASI® program more than 10 years ago, Beau has now turned his efforts to the development of a new and revised EASI® program including an on-the-shelf version.
Beau is a member and a former president of the Survival and Flight Equipment Association and is a member in good standing of the American Psychological Association, American College of Forensic Examiners, Flight Safety Foundation, and the National Business Aviation Association.
André Borschberg
(Keynote speaker)
André Borschberg is the CEO and co-founder of the SOLAR IMPULSE project. Solar Impulse project created after seven years of research and simulations the final design of the 61 meters wingspan prototype solar airplane called HB-SIA. In a world depending on fossil energies, the Solar Impulse project is a paradox, almost a provocation: it aims to have an airplane take off and fly autonomously, day and night, propelled uniquely by solar energy, right round the world without fuel or pollution.
Graduate of the EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) in mechanical engineering and of the MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) in management sciences, André Borschberg has gained a solid experience as manager and founder of companies.
Fascinated by aviation from an early age, André Borschberg trained as a pilot at the Swiss Air Force School, first of all on Venoms, then Hunters and Tigers, airplanes that he has piloted for more than twenty years. Today, he collects professional pilot’s licences for airplanes and helicopters.
His strong points: the organisation, management and development of companies. He was trained at McKinsey’s for 5 years, one of the world’s leading management consultancies. He co-founded a risk capital company, started two technology companies, and became involved on the social front, on behalf of the Restos du Coeur and helping the sick. His wide range of professional competencies, versatility and perseverance enable him to succeed wherever he goes: from finance to marketing, from engineering problems to human resources.
André Borschberg is a member of such notable associations as the prestigious Young Presidents' Organization and the Organisation of Chief Executives. CEO of Solar Impulse and Bertrand Piccard’s partner from the project’s inception, he is a passionate company manager, who has established and motivated a team of 55 people within Solar Impulse, composed of the best specialists coming from highly varied origins and backgrounds.
