|
|
"No more of the same!" |
Spitfire Room |
|
| Cdr. Bud Slabbaert, Conference Chairman |
| There is a need to think differently and to do things differently.
Anyone who wants to outdo the competition has to outthink the competition first. Transverse thinkers may be
controversial but they do encourage innovation and contribute to changes in an industry, be it products, services,
client relations, corporate behavior or philosophy. Future means "no more of the same", everything else is nostalgia
and history. |
|
|
"Telepresence" |
Spitfire Room |
|
| Robert Stead, EMEA Marketing Director, Polycom |
Is there a way to communicate
without actually going anywhere, a new standard for virtual meetings reducing the need for business travel while
facilitating worldwide collaboration and environmental benefits on top of it? Flying to business meetings and
conferences is not only expensive, it is a hassle, it is hugely polluting. That is the claim of some powerful Fortune 500
companies that are active in the business of telecommunications. A study completed by the European
Telecommunications Network Operators Association (ETNO) and WWF concluded that if 20 percent of business travel
in the European Union were replaced by Telepresence solutions, 25 million tons of CO2 would be saved annually by
2010-and that's just in the EU! What is Telepresence? Could it be a new opportunity for airports, FBOs, and airport
business centers? Should it be an alert for charter operators and airlines?
We need to widen our horizons! This presentation may be an eye opener!

| The RAF Northolt Station is proud of its role as
the home of number 32 (The Royal) Squadron. Official visitors cover the widest spectrum and include British and
Foreign Royalty, Heads of State and Government Ministers, and many VVIPs who enjoy the privacy and first-class
passenger handling services available. The terms FBO and Client Relations are unheard of, however the service is
Royal Class and there is protocol. What can we learn from the Royal Air Force? |

Raymond Stebler, Managing Director, Bluebridge Management
USA, West Orange, NJ, USA
Andre Weber, CEO, Bluebridge Management AG, Zollikerberg, Switzerland |
| What qualities are important if you
already are, or if you are inspired to become a leader in the aviation industry? Every organization needs leaders
at every level. Leadership is the quality which makes one person stand out different from the others as well as the
ability to get others to willingly follow. |

"FBO Staffing and Training" |
Spitfire Room |
|
Graham Stephenson, Aviation Consultant Specializing In FBOs Worldwide
Peter Knapp, Head of Training, Centre for Civil Aviation, London Metropolitan University |
| Identify the jobs that have to be fulfilled in an FBO and then the requirements of the job and how those
skills can be taught. What training is available in the industry for FBO staff and what is needed? The
training should be linked to the type of people who fit into the different positions in an FBO. This is
especially important considering the different types of customer - passengers, operators or trip planners. |
| 15:15 |
16:15 |
"Scheduling and Dispatch in Business Aviation" |
Hurricane Room |
|
Helmut Lehr, Chief Flight Dispatcher, Comlux Aviation,
Zurich, Switzerland
Stefano Costi, Travico, Wettingen, Switzerland |
| A flight dispatcher is situated in a business aviation operation or dispatch center assisting pilots with performance
calculations, flight planning, weather analysis and briefing, performing as many pre-flight tasks as possible for the flight
deck. Contrary to US regulations, in Europe a dispatcher was never required. Instead the workload and responsibility
always rested with the pilot in command. Nowadays with all the sophisticated and state of the art business jets, with
possible air times of up to 14 hours, pilots easily reach their maximum possible duty time limits even without pre-flight
duties. The need for employing dispatchers has now been raised by the pilots to their
flight operation departments. Research has shown that 85% of operators with less than 10 aircraft operate without licensed
dispatchers and do not have sufficiently educated and trained staff for their operation departments. |

17:45 |
"Cabin Safety : Why Have a Trained Third Crew Member? Safety Is Paramount!" |
Spitfire Room |
|
| Susan C. Friedenberg, Pres. & CEO Corporate Flight Attendant Training & Services, Philadelphia, PA, USA |
| If a pilot were given the option to share his cockpit with a non-type rated pilot
with no experience on that aircraft type, he would certainly decline the mission. The same standards in
choosing a business aviation flight attendant should apply. Any flight attendant who is not properly trained
should not be on an airplane. This breakout session clearly demonstrates the value of emergency and
first-aid training and the What If Variable of aircraft cabin management. |

"On-line News Media are In-touch and On-top" |
Hurricane Room |
|
Tim Harlow, Publisher & Chief Editor of BLUESKY, United Kingdom
Peter Kellner, Publisher & Chief Editor of AEROBRIEF, Germany |
| The number of people going online for news on a regular basis is rising.
The aviation industry now appears to be taking the new information channels in earnest.
On-line News Media allow hunting-and-gathering readers to act more directly on their preferences rather
than being led to them. The Executives of two leading E-zines explain how they work and why their numbers of subscribing
aviation professionals are literally growing by the day. |

"Business Intelligence" |
Spitfire Room |
|
Magnus Henriksson, Manager Avinode Business Intelligence, Götenborg, Sweden
|
| Business Intelligence can generate valuable reports to assist you in optimizing your business. Basic information
about most requested departure and arrival zones is available. Based on an extensive collection of data, statistic
reports about business behaviors on the global air charter market can be supplied. Based on historic data and
real-time information, analyses may be created of how a new aircraft would perform in the system based on its type,
configuration and home base. A wide range of of custom reports can be made for leading industry players in their
strategy planning. Business Intelligence is crucial for making the right decisions. |

"Food Safety Awareness & How To Order Catering for FBO CSR's/S&D's/Handlers/ Charter Brokers" |
Hurricane Room |
|
| Susan C. Friedenberg, Pres. & CEO Corporate Flight Attendant Training & Services, Philadelphia, PA, USA |
| Many times, FBO's are charged with the task of ordering catering via the CSR's when a transient aircraft
comes thru without a trained F/A. The pilots get off of their aircraft, ask for fuel, lav service, topping
of the potable water supply and any specific aircraft service requests which might include ordering the
catering for the outbound leg. The CSR's are basically clueless about the aircraft's galley equipment and
cabin size restrictions. They do not know what questions to ask the pilots before the pilots leave the
FBO and they do not know what to tell the caterer. When the catering is wrong, the client is mad and at
times will not pay for the catering and you are stuck with the bill to promote customer satisfaction.
This also happens to Charter operations. Some passengers then refuse to even pay for the actual charter. |

"Aircraft Management Software Solutions" |
Spitfire Room |
|
| Stefano Costi, Travico, Wettingen, Switzerland |
| A process oriented software application is designed for Aircraft Operators and should not be limited to incorporating features and
functions applicable to any country. Open architecture and platform should offer flexibility and the utmost support for daily business increasing efficiency and
reliability by simply adhering to the principals of Pre-Flight, Flight & Post Flight processes. |

"Aircraft Registry; what, why and how?" |
Hurricane Room |
|
| Ronald Barry Goodliffe, Civil Aviation Authority of the Cayman Islands, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands |
| All aircraft must be registered with a national authority and furthermore, they must carry proof of this
registration in the form of a legal document called a Certificate of Registration at all times when in operation.
In this session you will find out about aircraft registrations.
The Cayman Islands Aircraft Registry is the registry of choice for many owners and management companies with
corporate aircraft ranging from Cessna Citation to Boeing Business Jets. Standards are rigid and specifications
exact to qualify, but this has led to the register being highly respected and recognized throughout the aviation
industry internationally. The Cayman Islands Aircraft Registry operates in accordance with legislation similar
to that in the UK. |

"Creative Photography for the Aviation Industry:
Is it a necessity or a pointless and expensive ego messaging?" |
Spitfire Room |
|
| Paul Cordwell, Birmingham, UK |
| The translations from the company you think you have may be entirely different from the business your clients perceive.
Creative, inspirational and qualified photography will be the only major opportunity to visually demonstrate just how
good your business is. Effective design lead photography supporting a concise marketing strategy creates crucial
confidences and will be the difference between winning and loosing business. How not to mess it up. |

"Beware of Birds" |
Hurricane Room |
|
| Roger James, Manager Airside Operations, Scarecrow Bio-Acoustic Systems, Uckfield, UK |
| The days of bird scaring are now gone. Today's litigious society demands more comprehensive bird dispersal systems
for all situations compared to traditional bird scarers. New ‘greener’ aircraft may be better for the environment but
they are fitted with quieter engines that birds cannot hear so well. New methods of safe and humane airside bird control
are avialable and will reduce the risk of birdstrikes. No matter what bird kind you are having problems with from Seagulls
to pest Pigeons there is a variety of solutions. |

"The advantages of satellite communications" |
Hurricane Room |
|
| Jesper Bækgaard, SATCOM 1, Director Special Programs, Denmark |
| In today's world the aircraft cabin must provide everything you would expect in your own office to make travel time
effective and the cockpit processes and workload must be optimized. Satellite communications can help both in the cabin
and in the cockpit. With satellite equipment on board it is possible to stay connected in your office-in-the-sky. Not
only can you use aircraft phones or even your personal phone to make calls, but also connect your personal laptop or
PDA and send and receive emails as on ground, as well as surf the Internet or send a fax. In the cockpit, satellite
communication can assist by providing EFB updates and the latest weather. Also satellite communications will enable
the use of ACARS (Aircraft Communications, Addressing and Reporting Systems). ACARS is a digital data link system for
transmission of short, relatively simple messages between aircraft and ground stations via radio or satellite. It is
all about optimizing the planning of the flight including flight planning, position reporting, fuel savings etc. It
has been used in the commercial industry for many years, but is now increasingly used in business aviation. |
